If Jill Valentine played like Dante from Devil May Cry, Resident Evil would be a lot shorter and less engaging. The first few games are more heavily leaned toward survival horror, so their protagonists are always massively underpowered. In the typical Resident Evil game, action set pieces are temporary tense events that shatter through the tone of the rest of the experience. When Rebecca is kidnaped and the world is at stake, Leon agrees to join the quest, and the duo set out to stop Arias's evil plan. Leon Kennedy has collapsed into alcoholism and guilt after the death of his entire squad, so he's not interested when Chris comes calling. Luckily, Chris and Rebecca know one man who has survived Los Illuminados in the past. Rebecca Chambers discovers the nature of the new A-Virus and its connection to Las Plagas. Chris is almost killed in his first tangle with Arias, forcing him to seek a new path. He wages an all-out war on the United States, partnering with the Spanish Illuminados terrorist group. A drone strike aimed at Arias's wedding kills almost everyone in attendance, but Arias lives. The CIA discovered Arias's actions and ordered his execution. Arias quit the agency and turned to the ever-profitable business of selling bio-organic weapons. Vendetta begins with Chris Redfield tracking a former CIA agent named Glenn Arias. The film takes place between the ill-fated excess of Resident Evil 6 and the arguably new beginning of Resident Evil 7. Both actors had prior experience with their roles, leading to great performances all around. Kennedy is portrayed by beloved Dungeon Master to the stars Matthew Mercer while Redfield was voiced by Kevin Dorman. Vendetta follows familiar franchise heroes Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield. The film received bad reviews, but each entry made a fair amount of money. The previous films weren't particularly popular, and Vendetta did not break that trend. Early talks from Capcom called it a reboot of the film franchise. It’s a lot less exciting when we don’t even get the thrill of a QTE.Released in 2017, Resident Evil: Vendetta is the third CG-animated Resident Evil film. Within a game, it’s a lot easier to forgive their paper-thin personalities when we can fill those gaps by ourselves. There are even some pretty cool moments that look like they would have been a lot of fun if the viewers actually controlled Leon and Chris’ actions. In the rare moments that this film shines, it gives fans the over-the-top action sequences that made the recent games so popular. It’s impossible to care about any of these people if they become zombie chow less than five minutes after they first appear on screen.

The biggest issue is that the movie treats everyone who isn’t Chris, Leon, and Rebecca as completely disposable characters.
Leon’s characterization is hilariously one-note as the tortured survivor of so many zombie incidents, and Chris plays that same note himself.except the film tries a little bit harder with him. It’s almost as if the creative team behind this movie forgot that the Resident Evil games have plenty of kickass heroines to choose from, and they simply added Rebecca to the mix so that Chris and Leon would have someone familiar to save. The film really doesn’t do Rebecca any favors by turning her into a damsel in distress. Resident Evil: Vendetta is basically cribbing the plot of every Super Mario game. Play Out of nowhere, Arias develops an obsession with Rebecca and he even has her kidnapped and dressed up in a wedding dress to make her his bride. Arias actually does have a legitimate reason for his vendetta against the heroes, but his motivations take a sharp turn late in the film which almost completely disrupts what little story it has.

The plot of the movie reunites Chris with two of the other heroes from the series: Leon Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers, who is suddenly re-imagined as a brilliant scientist who holds the key to defeating the new virus strain. And frankly, some of the games have had better animation. The lifeless performance of the CGI just can’t handle those human touches. It’s when the film calls upon the characters to emote and demonstrate their feelings that the animation falters. It’s not up to industry standards, but it’s barely noticeable in the first few minutes when a special unit led by Chris Redfield suddenly finds itself under attack by a new breed of vicious zombies. The animation itself isn’t too big of an issue. Resident Evil: Vendetta definitely falls into that category, and it’s got a lot of problems.
